Amicis Solutions opens new office in Toronto
Recently, we announced the opening of our newest office in Toronto, Canada – which is also our first international location. In the press release, we share that Canada – and Toronto, in particular – has a highly developed, but still under-the-radar technology sector. Many highly skilled, well-trained and experienced technologists live there, giving us access to this pool to support our rapid growth throughout North America.
In this blog, we’ll provide a little more context: In recent months, we have onboarded several very large Canadian retailers that have selected Amicis Solutions to support their Microsoft Dynamics implementations, and also extend their functionality with our fully integrated proprietary demand management and payment solutions. As such, we recognize that Canada has much to offer in the way of software innovation and development. In fact, a 2018 report from CBRE reveals that Toronto created more technology jobs in 2017 than Seattle, San Francisco, Washington, D.C. – combined!
Why is that? How did our northern neighbor usurp the usual suspects when it comes to technology expertise? It seems that word really got out last summer when Bloomberg revealed that Toronto had significantly – albeit under the radar – climbed its way up the tech talent power rankings.
In 2017, the number of newly created tech jobs in Toronto grew 14 percent over 2016 – and more than 50 percent over the past five years. Many more articles suggest that the city’s long history accumulating the right mix of culture, diversity, education and talent is what’s responsible for transforming it into a technology hub to contend with. In addition, the University of Toronto and the University of Waterloo, which is nearby, have received much recognition for their advanced computer science programs, accelerator programs, as well as collaborations with international companies to help prepare tech students for future jobs.
When Toronto’s vibrant community and world-class educational facilities are paired with the fact that it consistently ranks as one of the top places to live (it offers great public transportation, safety stats and plethora of things to do), it’s clear why the city is attracting a large talent pool and now ranks high on the tech hub list.
You can see why we are so excited about the opening of our newest office, which will focus on research and development, consulting services and support for our expanding customer base in the region.
